Why Humor? Why Laughter? Because there is Definitely something funny going on.
But most ADULTS have a serious condition because they are conditioned to be serious, seriously, its a serious problem! No pun indended. That reminds me of a joke:

I sent in ten different puns, in the hope that at least one of the puns would win.

A Better "Sense" of Humor is the Answer!
My supreme purpose in this book is to make you funnier with your own unique fresh and raw humor, even if it means pulling you kicking and screaming through ALL these pages. I want to give you a better sense of how vital humor is for your overall experience in all areas of your life; that is, a better sense of humor (double entrendre intended). That reminds me of a joke:

Just as I was writing that sentence, I was reminded of a joke… There is no humor better than spontaneous humor and humor relevant to a topic, which as I mentioned is one of the big secrets to being funny. It's not just about telling random jokes, though that can be fun also, it's more about have a large toolbox of jokes and puns ready to go in any moment.
I know I have made this point, but remember the latin phrase:

The father of learning is applying that knowledge.... Then you can give birth to more mirth in your life.

Next in Recreation, I will share my 2 years of substitute teaching for elementary children and using humor that children liked, which I chose animal humor (that was clean of course). Also the MANY THINGS we can learn from children to be more playful and take a recess at least a few times a day to go out and play. Throughout this book I am going to share MY PERSONAL experiences IN ALL these areas of LIFE and HOW I humorized them. I will give you many jokes and examples that worked for me and hopefully you'll walk away from this book with a lot of new jokes and a strategy and plan on how to bring humor into your life so you can be a like a happy mushroom, a really FUNGI to be with... Or a FUNGAL to be with (is it me or does the guy version sound better?).
And as you'll notice, I even humorize this book from the funny cover, inside cover, foreword, preface, chapters, appendix, references and reviews and back cover. Basically all the serious elements that make up a book, I humorize! So not only is this a joke book, the whole book itself is a JOKE!

The word humor has several meanings besides the obvious definition of perceiving, appreciating or expressing something funny or amusing - Joking, jesting, playfulness! Laughter. That is the most important definition in relation to this book, but there is the other definition of HUMOR:
A.FLUIDS in the BODY – Wet, Moist, Fluid
B.Health, Disposition of temperament (body, emotions and mind)
C. Joking, Jesting, Laughter
Our Body has Four humors according to the ancient Greeks and so does our lives. That is there are four stages and areas of LIFE we can make fun of. The FOUR main areas of our life: Our health, our spirituality, our vocation (work) and our avocation (play). When these four areas are full of humor (the NEW Four Humors), then your relationships with yourself, others, the environment and Life itself will be ever new joy.
We will laughingly discuss this in more detail but I just wanted you to see the big picture. Next to each is the area of humor research that applies. As we will see, there has been research at Harvard, John Hopkins, Stanford, DeVry and other very Prestiguous schools on humor. The main areas are Physiological, Socio-psychological, Creativity, Problem Solving, Learning and more. YES, humor has ALL kinds of benefits!

In Health, I wrote monthly articles for the Healing Garden journal that used humor and playfulness. I also hosted over 40 episodes of a healh T.V. show called "Forever Young" where I used humor in many different ways. In this section, I will share my personal experiences, jokes and research that proves that Humor improves your health in many ways (Chapter 4).

M= Meditation/Mindset/Spirituality (Relationship to God, Self Source/Spirit -mainly socio-psychological, relationship with True self)
Laughter is the high road to enlightenment, helps to loosen the ego (let go of my ego), and breaks up all the rigid beliefs, prejudices and barriers you have between yourself and the world. Laughter helps you to relax and destress so you'll feel more at peace.
For Meditation/spirituality, I lived 4 years at a spiritual/yoga retreat center practiced daily yoga/prayer/meditation and incorporated humor in many ways including 5 comedy skits, humorous-fun-filled yoga and even a Laugh-Fest weekend with my friend Eric Huffman. In this section, I will give specific examples, more jokes, and research linking the psychological/spritual benefits of humor (Chapter 2).

Telling a joke comes in handy in business, it helps you to be more likeable, which gives you a BIG advantage in finding jobs, starting your own business, sales , etc. People buy people, not things... All things equal, someone will hire or buy from the person they LIKE.
In Occapation/work, this is the core of my research, because I actually received a M.A. in Physics education where my thesis was "Using Humor in Physics Education and Assessment." I will outline my research and how I was fortunate enough to complete my Masters AND teach for 5 years implanting Humor in the workplace, which was for me, teaching Math and Physics. But no matter WHAT your job is, I will show you tips, strategies and jokes for making your job actually fun… Imagine driving to work every day (including Monday morning), looking forward to the day (Chapter 5). Ok, if you just can't see it, than start by imaging 5pm is nearing Friday, and you are on the verge of a weekend long drunken fest and you dread Monday like the Black death... Baby steps, baby steps.

Next in Recreation, I will share my 2 years of substitute teaching for elementary children and using humor that children liked, which I chose animal humor (that was clean of course). Also the MANY THINGS we can learn from children to be more playful and take a recess at least a few times a day to go out and play. This chapter is the art of being Child-like without being too Child-ish (at least most of the time).
If you use humor in these five areas of life, great relationships is a natural consequence because ALL your relationships, at work, at home, at play, with your friends will be enhanced by a big smile, a hearty laugh and a toolbox full of jokes and humor appropriate for all occasions.
NOTE: relationships can be both work and fun, but totally worth the effort IF the relationship is with someone with a good sense of humor. If not, this book would make a great gift (just whiteout this paragraph before wrapping). If they refuse to read this book and take life serious, either choose NOT to be their friend OR in the case of coworkers and family members (who you have little choice), consider humor in these circumstances as a detachment and coping mechanism… haha. Seriously.
According to the Greeks, 4 humors gave rise to our overall health and demeanor… According to this new model, bringing Humor into the 4 main areas of life (plus the YOU factor) will make your internal Humors glow like the sun and people will naturally want to be around you.
Ok, so its gets even cooler especially if you live in Northern Michigan, like I did once.
There are also 4 stages of life according to Eastern Traditions like Hinduism. Don't ask me to recite the Sanskrit terms..lol... But its basically the cycles of life from childhood and learning, to adulthood and earning, to mature adulthood and giving back (returning) your wisdom from experience and finally old age and yearning for the divine. You (U) and the other four aspects of humor fit into these cycles of LIFE.

A Funny Aside - Joke Poll Proves Ducks are the Funniest Animals
There are several animal jokes where you an insert ANY animal and the joke works.
Laughlab, one of the biggest joke polls ever performed collected data from thousands of jokes and hundreds of thousands of participants. What they found with regards to animals was that Ducks were the funniest animal***.
So its apropos that we begin this book with an Intro-Duck-Shun along with some animal jokes involving Ducks. In fact 3 of the 4 jokes in this chapter could be done with an animal (a bear, dog, etc.). But laughlab found that ducks were always funniest.
Perhaps it is because of their beaks, or webbed feet or odd shape?
Regardless, the implications are clear - if you are going to tell a joke involving an animal, make it a Duck.
