To Breath or not to Breath, that is the question of health. Hello, my name is Brett O’Freshaire and I am the owner and creator of the Breatharian Buffet. This is a restaurant for breatharians (people who live on only air and require no food). Of course we serve no food here, but the atmosphere is fabulous (unlike the new restaurant that was just opened on the moon where they serve great food but there is no atmosphere). Seriously, we serve all varieties of air here. We have Peri-Air, non-Dairy-Air, northwest-Air (from Seattle), Air-Jordan (air from the country of Jordan), and O2 shooters and smoothies (just to name a few).
Oh, and don’t mind the people with closepins on their noses, they are fasting so please leave them alone. We also have state of the art air purifiers, negative ion generators and oxygen production devices. Our restaurant is filled to the brim with species of plants that are known to release the most oxygen. We are located in a remote valley in the Amazon rainforest surrounded by thousands of densely packed trees that release tons of oxygen each day. Oh the sweet smell of oxygen, like the crisp rejuvenating air after a thunderstorm. Oxygen. Like the clean salty sea breeze that refreshes our lungs as we breath it. So come visit me in the Amazon valley. But if you cannot make the trip, I do have a few tips for better, cleaner, deeper breathing.
There is nothing as rejuvenating to the human body as fresh clean air. Oxygen is the most essential nutrient. We can live a month without food, a few days without water, but only a few minutes without oxygen. Did you know that about 90% of the bodies energy comes from oxygen? That means only 10% comes from food, water and sunshine. So it is crucial to get fresh and clean air. Keep as many plants in your house as you can manage. Plants absorb carbon dioxide and toxins and give off oxygen. Also, always keep a window cracked to let fresh air in – even in the winter (dress warmer). A recent EPA study showed that most homes and office complexes have seven times more indoor pollution than outdoor air. Indoor pollution includes airborn bacteria, virus’, molds, dust, pollen, pet dander, smoke, paints, solvents, cleaners, detergents, new carpet, new furniture, natural gas and hundreds of other chemicals pollute our indoor air at home and in the workplace. I highly recommend a good HEPA air purifying system that is able to remove VOC’s (volatile organic compounds like formaldehyde and ammonia that off-gas from new carpet, furniture, plywood and particle boards and many other newly purchased home items). The final consideration for fresh air is buying a house away from the city, industrial plants and highways. Live in a well-forested area or an area close to a large body of water.
Once you have fresh, clean air at your disposal, you must re-learn how to breath it. I say re-learn because as an infant you naturally took deep breaths (a baby’s little belly goes up and down when they breath). But at some point we acquired shallow upper chest breathing -the breath of death-! The good news is that by continuous practice we can reclaim the secret to the fountain of youth: Deep diaphragmatic breaths beginning with the belly and ending with the chest.
So I will initiate you into the SACRED ART OF BELLY BREATHING. Start by relaxing and getting comfortable; you can remain seated or lay down. First, exhale all the air out of your lungs. Next breath a deep diaphragmatic breath in; when you do this correctly your stomach will rise first, then your middle chest and finally your upper chest. Now hold your breath for a few counts, then exhale. As you exhale your upper chest collapses first, then your middle chest and finally your stomach (reverse order of the inhalation). And make sure as you breath out you completely empty your lungs of every last drop of air. Also when you breath in completely fill your lungs full of FRESH air (make sure to practice outdoors in the woods or in an environmentally safe home with windows open). It is also important to hold the breath for a few counts because this dramatically increases oxygen absorption. So practice this sacred breathing at least three times a day performing at least 12 breaths.
You can also do this while walking in the woods. Spend the first five minutes of your walk with some long, deep breaths. Research has shown that long, slow deep breathing produces a relaxation response in the body. Do this technique whenever you feel stressed out. It’s also great to do during yoga practice and before meditation. So learn the power of deep breathing and unlock the most important secret to super longevity and amazing vitality!
. And if you’re ever in the Amazon, stop by and see me at the Breatharian Buffet; your first 12 breaths are on me!
